Frequently Asked Questions

What sterilization procedures do you use in your office?

Since your safety is very important to us, we use a three-step sterilization process. First we scrub and hand rinse the instruments. Then we individually bag them. Finally, we put them in an ultrasonic cleaner and autoclave them (steam at very high heat to sterilize). These sterile packages are not opened until used during your appointment.

We also use a self-contained, sterile water system to eliminate any possible contamination from tap water.

I want my teeth to look better, but I don’t want to wear ugly metal braces. Can you help?

Yes! There are many ways today to enhance your smile without the use of traditional braces. We may suggest Invisalign transparent braces, which are clear, removable aligners that gradually move your teeth into the right position. With Invisalign, there are no restrictions on eating or drinking—and best of all, no unattractive gleam of silver in your mouth.  Many people may not even realize that you’re wearing braces.

If you’d like to get an almost instant makeover, we can fit your teeth with porcelain veneers. Veneers solve a variety of cosmetic problems in your smile, including gaps between teeth, crooked teeth, or stained, worn or chipped teeth.

We’d be very glad to discuss all your options for enhancing your smile. Please call our Louisville dental office today to schedule a consultation.

Why do I need a crown and not just a filling?

For anything other than a small area of decay, a crown provides strength and durability for your tooth. Fillings can develop microscopic cracks and let in bacteria, which grows under the filling and causes even more decay. That doesn’t happen with crowns, because they cover the vulnerable areas of your tooth and protect it from further harm.

We also prefer crowns in these cases because our philosophy is to give you the best possible solution up front, so that you won’t have to have work done again and again on the same tooth. A filling is likely to need attention again, whereas a crown has less likelihood to need repair.

Do you accept referrals?

Absolutely - we welcome them and appreciate the confidence and trust that you show in us when you refer your family, friends and neighbors.

Do you have a cancellation policy for appointments?

Yes, we require at least 24 hours notice when you need to cancel an appointment so that we can offer your time slot to another patient who needs care.

What do I do if I have a dental emergency after your regular office hours?

If you are a patient of record, you can call our office for instructions on how to reach us.
